White Water Rafting in Canada

White water rafting is one of the best activities to go out and experience in the summer months in Canada. Rain or shine it is suitable for the whole family. It is one of those activities that will leave you asking for more, and an adventure you will never forget.

What exactly is it?

Action On The RiverWhite water rafting consists of floating and splashing your way down the river in an inflatable raft taking on all the rapids that the river throws at you. With the instruction and knowledge of the certified guide, you will enjoy a day of scenery and excitement that can be matched by no other adventure around. The excitement in the river can be measured on a scale of 1 through 6. One being water that is moving with no white water or waves and six being a water fall. Most companies offer raft rides raging from class 2 to 4.

Why should you do it?

If you haven’t tried rafting then what are you waiting for?! Rafting is so enjoyable that lots of people shape their summer vacation around it. The scenery that is viewed on a raft trip is completely impossible to see by other means; the canyon walls, fantastic wild life and beautiful river make for an unforgettable day. Another brilliant aspect of rafting is that its an experience you can share with others whether they're old or young, fit or unfit.

How long does it take?

River trips vary from a few hours to multi-day excursions, but in most situations are half day and full day adventures. On full day trips expect to be picked up in the morning, suited up with all the river gear needed, given instructions and pointers on how to make the most of your day, be provided with a lunch or snack, then be returned home safely with a huge smile on your face.

What is a typical day like?A Happy Group

On arrival you will be given instructions on how to suit up with your wet suit, river shoes, helmet, and lifejacket. After getting to the river shore, one of the experienced guides will give you a short but informative safety briefing. After this everyone is prepared for the rapids; your day will be filled with splashes, lunch, and potentially cliff jumping for those who didn’t get wet enough on the raft!

How experienced do I need to be?

Most organizations cater for those who have never rafted or been down the river before. The guides will be very informative and helpful so by the end of the day everyone should feel like a pro.

What do I need to bring?

For the most part the only equipment that you will need to bring is a bathing suit, towel, and some dry clothes to change into at the end of the day, maybe some sunglasses if you’re lucky with the weather. All the river gear should be provided if you go with a respectable company.

How safe is it?

Like any adventure activity safety is priority number one. To keep the risks down all companies operating must be certified and experienced paddlers before being able to bring commercial clients down the river. You may fall out of the raft but this will only add to the story and experience and probably at the end of the day will be making all of your friends jealous.
